FIT KIDS! FIT OJAI! Grants
Deadline for application April 18, 2009
The Rotary Club of Ojai "Fit Kids! Fit Ojai!"
Program invites grant requests for projects that promote health and nutrition
in children and youth
PURPOSE AND BACKGROUND: Over the past three decades, the childhood obesity
rate has more than doubled for preschool children aged 2-5 years and adolescents
aged 12-19 years. It has more than tripled for children aged 6-11 years.
Childhood obesity is particularly troubling, because the extra pounds often
start kids on the path to health problems that were once confined to adults:
Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.
Priority for Fit Kids! Fit Ojai! Grants will be given to programs that:
Increase physical activity in children from early childhood through adolescence
Encourage healthy eating practices among children and families
Promote community awareness of diseases associated with obesity
FUNDING: Grants in any amount up to $5,000.00 will be considered.
The Rotary Club of Ojai provides grant funding to non-profit and public benefit
organizations to help support education, programs, services and/or improvements
which will benefit the Ojai Valley community in specific ways.
The Rotary Club of Ojai Foundation offers both college and vocational scholarships
to students who reside in the Ojai Valley and are graduating from a public
or private high school in the valley and are planning on entering fall term
at a recognized junior college, vocational/trade school, college or university.
In addition to Rotary Club of Ojai grants and scholarships, educational mini-grants
are offered from the Ojai Educational Foundation. Their application process
will run from March to May, 2009. Visit their web site at
