In the Beginning.....
President Scott Smith welcomed members and guests, called the meeting to order at 12:10 pm. Beginning with the Pledge to the flag, led by Hank Bangser and reading of the 4-Way Test by Mary Jo Garrett. Judy Gabriel offered a special invocation in memory of Shari Skinner, a Rotary friend who gave much to our club in terms of “her leadership, brilliant intellect, wit and humor, and most of all her generous heart.” She will be missed in Rotary and in all of the Ojai community. Scott also thanked the Sgt at Arms Committee for set up and adjourned the meeting for lunch. The meeting reconvened at 12:30 PM. Stacey Benotto passed the microphone.
Visiting Rotarians and Guests
Visiting Rotarians included Karl Keller of Camarillo Rotary (announcing the upcoming Trivia Challenge in mid March), Ed Summers of Ventura Downtown (announcing the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Ventura, March 13), and Dick Sheahan from Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Fred Fauvre introduced our PEP student of the month, Sara Bowen, her family and teacher.
Bill Gilbreth introduced his special guest, Dave Intner, an architect and neighbor of Bill.
Dick Weirick introduced his son, Bill Weirick.
Boyd Ford introduced his son Brian Ford.
John Russell introduced for the last time as a guest, Don Reed.
Mike Weaver introduced our speakers Nancy Gregg Keller and Linda LeBrock of the Boys and Girls Club.
President Scott introduced Serena Whitcomb and Christa Hastie as guests of the Club.
Special Presentations
PEP Student of the Month:

Bob Skankey introduced the PEP Student of the Month Sara Bowen from Miramonte School. She was accompanied by her mother, Nona Bowen and her teacher Karen Oswald. According to Mrs. Oswald, Sara is an enthusiastic participant in PE and the classroom.
Students from Monica Ros Deliver Money Raised for Haiti Relief
Susan Hardenberg brought a group of students who presented the Club with $710.25 which they raised for Haiti relief. The children shared with Rotarians why they had raised the money. President Scott called for matching donations from Rotarians and was able to secure seven $100 donations to match the efforts of the students.
Announcements. . .
Bob Skankey announced the carwash by the Nordhoff leadership group for the benefit of Haiti. For those holding pre-purchased tickets a make-up day will be scheduled soon.
President Scott announced that this year's Rotary Work Day would be held on April 24 in conjunction with Earth Day.
President Scott announced the Memorial Service for Shari Skinner was scheduled for Sunday, February 21 at 2:00 PM at Meditation Mount. Due to the limited parking available, shuttle service will be available from Boccali's Restaurant. A memorial scholarship fund has been established by Ojai Community Bank. Donations made be made to RCOF, marked for Shari Skinner Memorial Scholarship.

Fred Fauvre contributed for this 39 th Rotary anniversary on February 13.
Dana Huffman donated to the Shari Skinner Memorial Fund in honor of having her picture in the Ojai Valley News and her February birthday.
Chris Platt donated for his one year Rotary anniversary.
Dick Weirick announced the Bakers for the Bowl fundraiser—special home made cakes available from Ojai bakers Karen Evenden, Peggy Russell and Jane Weirick. Order sheets available on the tables. (YUMMY!)


The Program:
Mike Weaver introduced Linda LeBrock and Nancy Gregg Keller who provided information about the success of the Boys and Girls Club programs in the Oxnard area in reducing the rates of teenage pregnancy, graduation and preventing repeat offenses. They spoke to the need to coordinate youth services in the Ojai Valley and the need for a central location for services.
