In the Beginning.....
The first meeting of President Mike Weaver got off to a great start. Being the club assembly, most everyone stayed awake. Mike r received a rousing welcome as he introduced the new Rotary year. Jack Jacobs lead the club in the Flag Salute and Leland Hammerschmitt gave the invocation.
Lunch went on and everyone is to look at the bulletin board as we stand in line. So let's get the line to go past the bulletin board.
Leland and Grant Kemp were the greeters with our new Sgt. At Arms, Grant Kemp putting the final touches up around the room. Grant also handled the roving mic.
Visiting Rotarians and Guests
We had no visiting Rotarians and with no guest list to check spelling and relationships this is what I heard: Judy Gabriel's son Jamie was introduced along with Brett Bradigan's daughter Betsy. Special guests Nathan Kahler and Peter Bowen.
Announcements. . .
Jack Jacobs our new membership chair presented Hank Bangser his blue badge. Ian Maclean stood in for Hanks mentor Kelly Randall and Maggie Cerminaro was his sponsor.
We had a wonderful demotion party at the home of Bill and Sue Gilbreth . Thanks to them for opening up their home and also Andi Bloom, Dana Huffman, Dr. Roger Phelps, Colin and Cindy Jones , and Betsy Smith .

A little cold humor for the hot days ahead....
Fining:
No fining due to club assembly, don't know if that is good or bad.
Program: Club Assembly
President Mike introduced the program with a power point presentation of the goals for the coming year. If we (meaning Carl Gross ) can't get the power point to work here, it will be at the club web site.

Judy Gabriel is starting her second year as club board secretary. She is having Dana Huffman help her out this year with club attendance. We are ending the year with close to 90% attendance. She could use some bulletin board material, so let her know of any.

Ann Helson is starting her first year as club treasurer. She is bringing into the computer age. We all should have gotten our bi-annual dues and fine bill. Please respond quickly.

Bill Gilbreth is the new Community Service Director. His goal is better coordination with Ojai-West and other grant giving institutions. Some of the activities for this year include; Arbor Day, Fund raising Christmas Carol, Fit Kids, Fit Ojai, Interact at Matilija and Nordhoff, Kindergarten reading program, Living Treasure program, NHL (Flama) Nordhoff High School Leaders, Buffing the Condor (one of my old time favorites), Cemetery clean up, Denison Grade overlook clean up, and Youth Fest.
Bob Skankey as chair of International Service. With Future Vision program from RI the next three years will be a challenge that Bob and the club will meet (He is a peculiar person with the qualities to make this happen). When giving to TRF we receive money back in three years, so it makes sense to give to TRF. Also Polio Plus and a NID to India in Jan/Feb of 2011. We will be helping the Nomads in Niger, Water project in Mexico, Street Girls, and Roatan.

Jack Jacobs as our new Membership Chair. We have 75 active members with 4 on leave and 7 honorary members. We are not having the problems that other clubs are having with losing members. We want to reach out for quality members. We will be having background checks on members that work with children and be seeking diversity in our membership. He wants to have exit interview with members leaving and recognition of some of our outstanding members that are moving or leaving.
Catherine Lee is our PR chair, and will be looking for tools to share Rotary's message and refine “Our Brand”. Working with the Tuesday club to help the community know what Rotary is and developing friends in and out of Rotary.
Cari Guerrero was not able to attend the meeting, but has a full plate of programs to continue this year. Our club was recognize by the District this year as the Best in Vocational Service of large clubs.
Kelly Randall will be working for Polio Plus and TRF donations this year.
Scott Smith as Past President was not allowed to speak as was the President Elect, due to time constraints. But since your Pres. Elect is the editor for this edition of the Reminder, I will not be silenced. I would welcome any suggestions for the year 2011-2012 for programs and fundraisers (as would Mike for this year) and ways to make the club better. It is too late for this year (except real good fundraisers) to make changes, but Pres. Mike will lead us to a great year and I hope to keep that going the next year. I will listen to just about anything with no promise to do anything. Let me know this Friday if anyone read this far into the reminder and I may have a tooth brush for you!
In Closing President Mike stated “I want to thank the club for sending me to the RI Convention in Montreal. It was one of the highlights of my Rotary career. We all should be proud to be members of this very professional and well-respected organization. 18,500 Rotarians from all over the world were in attendance. The Hall of Friendship had over 220 exhibit booths displaying water, health, shelter, hunger, and fellowships Rotarians are involved in worldwide. The plenary and breakout sessions were very interesting and lead by excellent speakers. In all, it was the best convention I have ever attended. Al West and I will tell you a bit more next week.”
