In the Beginning....

A very loquacious group finally gave the ever smiling President Scott Smith their attention. On this spectacular Friday, we thank Dave Brubaker for reading the Rotary Four Way Test . All visiting Rotarians were introduced.

Our program was full of music, talent, laughter and admiration!

Fining: Catherine Lee

Catherine Lee started out the fining with a musical twist. We learned Thriller was the best selling album or all time – and there is a tie between The Beatles, Michael Jackson and Elvis for best selling artist. Some members were asked to hum the 1812 Overture, a few bars of Beethoven's 5 th Symphony and Straus “Blue Danube Waltz”. Janet Mahon did not know Dolly Parton has been a superstar for over five decades and Dietrich Schmidt ‘passed' on humming the William Tell Overture. Bob Davis tried to answer a question about the best selling opera record, which he guessed incorrectly. Oh, well.

The Program:

We were treated to a selection from the very talented Darrienne Gross, while a beaming Carl Gross was the proud papa. She sang about the inner workings of the ‘Spark of Creation' a Stephen Schwartz song from Children of Eden, playing now at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center through December 6th.

Next we were heard Scott's merry group of Songwriters Anonymous. They are a group of talented musicians and lyricists that meet regularly and support each other in their passion of songwriting. We enjoyed aspiring singers and ,finally, a Hollywood writer turned local songwriter. Who doesn't love a POLKA! A good time was had by all – many club members would be attending the Ojai Rotary West Anniversary dinner that night.
