Guests and Visiting Rotarians
All guests were introduced: Judy Beckett, Don Reed, Diane Duncan, Honorary Rotarians Alice Chesley and Leslie Clark and friends and family of Cecilia Levinson, PEP (Physical Education Program) Student of the month.

A few reminders: Holiday Party is Dec. 18, at Gables of Ojai , 6 pm RSVP to Andi Bloom, A Christmas Carol Play on Tues. Dec. 22 ; plan to attend and bring a friend to this wonderful fund raiser ! Remember your Polio Foundation year end gift and Rotary Foundation gift. ‘Tis the Season!
After eager anticipation and a subdued drum roll, the nominating slate for 2010-2011 was read: President elect =Mike Weaver, Community Service = Bill Gilbreth, Treasurer = Anne Helson, Membership = Jack Jacobs, Public Relations = Catherine Lee. S. and reminded all members to pick up the small cards at the table, go on line and schedule time to make a brief talk to H. Fining: John Rennell
Our handsome and witty John Rennell led the fining:
Dr. Bob Skankey and his football woes gave $$ to Mexico Water project.
Bill Gilbreth encouraged members to attend the Dance Program performed by Matilija Kids.
Dave Watson had a birthday.
Janet Mahon also gave to Mexico Water Project.
Jerry Kaplan and Arizona Wildcats beat USC! $20 in the pot for that.
Dr. Fred Fauvre announced the “Heart & Soul” 5/10K walk/run Feb.. 13.
Dr. Carl Gross recognized Suzanne C. Smith for helping out Autumn Years, a residential care facility that had roof damage with the rains. Their kitchen was flooded and closed. Suzanne and the Gray Gables kitchen provided warm meals for the Autumn Years clients.
Scott Smith celebrated a 27 yr. anniversary.
Allan Jacobs celebrated 37 years of wedded bliss.
Larry Beckett had a B-day.
Lerie Bjornstedt announced a family member was free of cancer.
Dick Weirick had something wise to say but I did not get it.
WELL, . . after all the confessions, John carried on with a travel/vacation related fining. Our friends, Berkley Baker, Larry Beckett, Bob Daddi, and others were great sports. (If you read this far, let me know next meeting and I will give you a prize !)

The Program: Leslie Clark/Dr. Bob Skankey-The Nomad Foundation Project

Leslie Clark , honorary Rotarian and founder of NOMAD Foundation shared her film about TAMESNA , Medical Clinic in Niger. This adventure was made all the more special because our own Dr.Bob Skankey was able to be part of the team in September. Great film, wonderful photographs, and all of this was possible because of a Rotary International matching grant (Thank you Kay Bliss! ) working with Rotary District 9100 in Niger, the poorest country in the world.
After torrential and devastating rains, Leslie connected to the satellite and created a site/blog and in 8 days, generous donors gave a total of $21,000 to help feed 4500 people for over a month.
The new clinic was able to help 553 patients and treated 142 cases of malaria. In this North African country, there is no doctor for over 50,000 sq. miles. Fascinating presentation and Dr. Bob summed it up by reminding us that happiness equals 1) caring about family,2) having a full stomach, and 3) a healthy body.
We have much to be thankful for – Leslie answered questions and suggested for members who have it all, they consider giving goats for Christmas !! Pls see: www.nomadfoundation.org
Respectfully submitted, MERRY CHRISTMAS ! Catherine Lee

Final Thoughts
1933 Speech version 2.0 In 1933 Paul harris gave a speech at the 24th annual Rotary International Convention. It was aired around the world. There was no video of this event, so I decided to animate a picture of Paul harris and Ches Perry and have him them present the speech in a visual context. If your Rotary club or district would like a high resolution version of this video on DVD please send send an email to kemplen@gmail.com
