May is Youth Service Month
Are you an established professional who wants to make positive changes in your community and the world? Our club members are dedicated people who share a passion for community service and friendship.
Our 1.2 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.

In the beginning...

At 12:10 President Michael Malone rang the bell to commence the May 11, 2018 meeting.

Don Reed led us in the flag salute and Matt Clements gave us a thoughtful invocation.  Then we escorted our guests and ourselves to the buffet for a delicious lunch buffet.

At 12:24 President Michael rang the bell and thanked Robert Roddick our Sergeant at Arms and his team for setting up the room for our meeting; Dave Brubaker for warmly greeting all of our members and guests, Bryant Huber for the roving mic, Matt Clements for manning the front table and Suzanne Scar for serving as our Reminder Editor.  Thank you Ginger Case for lunch!

Visiting Rotarians and Guests

Our Visiting Rotarian was Mark Fowler from the e-club of World Peace.  He gave us information about how to join them online.

Special Guest were Ian’s friend, Stanley (who he has known since the 3rd Grade) here to celebrate Ian’s birthday; Tony Thacher’s wife Anne and Leslie Bouche’s husband Bruce.

Announcements

Michael spoke proudly about The Young Americans (while slides displayed the event) and the efforts of Bryant Huber and other Rotarians for creating a spectacular weekend.  He also relayed a story about his own personal car singing Young American.  Hopefully…next year we can experience this again?

Confessions & Fining:

Sandy Buechley was our Fine Master as Marty Babayco rounded up the dollars.

Bret began the confessions by disclosing his project, “Beautiful Dreamer” and praising Bryant Huber for beautifully portraying the main character during the reading of Bret’s work.

Dave Watson and Amani Hishmeh were confessing family graduations, Wendy Baker and Tony Thacher talked about the delights of Toledo and Ojai’s 3rd Friday, Lerie made a handsome contribution to TRF in honor of Ian’s birthday, Cheree celebrated another bday in Mexico and announced the Matilija Project ribbon cutting on May 21, Bob Davis bragged about his grandchild Tory winning 1st place in a film festival and Sandy finished up confessions bragging about her niece being in the ‘final 4’ in a competition in a famous NYC bar “Don’t Tell Mama”.  She then fined many Rotarians with Mother’s Day trivia questions.
